Experiments in Abstraction Art by Steve Femmer
Exhibition Dates: September 2 - October 13, 2016
Abstraction was a break with pictorial tradition in the early twentieth century - art with no recognizable subject matter. It has continued to evolve and flourish over the years. Master artists I admire such as Jackson Pollack, Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko, Joan Mitchell, Gerhard Richter, Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Motherwell, Ellsworth Kelly, Howard Hodgkin, Richard Diebenkorn, Cy Twombly, Agnes Martin, Clyfford Still, Brice Marden and many others have pioneered the development of abstraction, achieving amazing results, each with their own unique style.
The work of all these artists has been an inspiration to me. I started making abstract paintings in 1972 and continue to explore new ways of working abstract. There seems to be no limit to the creative possibilities. I am now fortunate to have the opportunity to show some of my abstract work at Framations Art Gallery. The paintings in this exhibit, "Experiments in Abstraction", feature a variety of styles dating from 1978 to 2016 and include pieces from my latest series "Colors". This show covers a lot of work and I hope you enjoy it.
